Dear Readers,
Today, as we begin the new year, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God.
On January 1, Catholics attend Mass and are encouraged to reflect upon the essential role of Mary as Mother of the Redeemer and the unique role she played in mankind’s salvation history. Today, the Church also observes the “World Day of Peace,” established by Pope St. Paul VI in 1967. As Mary is the Mother of the Prince of Peace, let’s implore Mary's powerful intercession for peace in a world that is marred with violence and persecution.
Now, perhaps more than ever, our world needs to hear the Good News that Jesus read in the synagogue in Nazareth, “… he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18-19).
May you and your loved ones enjoy a blessed, peaceful, and hope-filled New Year!
In Christ,
Amen
Jacob M
